Crumbs from the Table of Joy
Scenic Designer and Charge Artist
Written by Lynn Nottage
Directed by Marti Gobel
Marquette University Theatre Department
November 2019

Marquette University's production of Crumbs from the Table of Joy was my first fully realized set design, and it came with a unique set of circumstances. For one, the entirety of this design was the final group project for a class, but the show was not put up until November of 2019. Additionally, this show had a very short building period which meant that we had to be fairly flexible and willing to compromise due to time constraints.

In addition to being the set designer, I was also the scenic charge for the show. The main projects that I oversaw for this show were a hand-painted wood-grained floor and stenciled wallpaper. To view the process for each of these projects respectively and view additional imagery from the design process, please click through each of the slideshows below.

Scenic Design by Stephen Hudson-Mairet

Jeeves at Sea was an incredibly exciting endeavor for me as it was my first professional gig in Milwaukee. It was a wonderful learning experience for me and a fantastic way to really hone in on my rendering skills.

As assistant scenic designer, I was tasked with conducting research and gathering images to help inspire the overall design of the set. I created the entirety of the SketchUp rendering under the guidance of Stephen Hudson-Mairet. We found great success and gained critical acclaim for this set--Gwen Rice of OnMilwaukee referred to is as "a sumptuous yacht with rich, dark wood and Art Deco flourishes of geometric design and gold trim."
On the Verge
Assistant Set Designer and Charge Artist
Written by Eric Overmyer
Directed by Maureen Kilmurry
Set Design by Madelyn Yee
Marquette University Theatre Department
November 2017

On the Verge was quite the exciting project for me as it was my first time having an official role on the design team of a production. I had the joy of working with guest designer and MU alumna Madelyn Yee. This meant that I spent quite a bit of time as a point person during the build of this show which was a great learning experience for me.

My main responsibility for this production was to oversee the painting of the floor, which was quite the undertaking. There is a line in the show where one character claims to feel like a "prisoner in a kaleidoscope" which inspired the complex design of the floor. You can take a peek into the process by clicking through the slideshow below.
